Biomassed: Who are you? Who do you play DUST 514 with, and what style of play do you enjoy?
Silly Rabbit: I am xTheSiLLyRaBBiTx. Veteran player of DUST 514 and seven-year FPS enthusiast. Currently, I am one of the lead directors of Negative-Feedback, and when it comes to who I squad with, it pretty much has gotten to where I’ve lost count. There are so many awesome people to enjoy the game with, I just grab a squad when it’s there. Since my journey into this game two years ago, my one true role has always been logistics. I enjoy this role above all else in the game, for it is the one unique factor in an FPS style game that involves saving and reinforcing one’s life instead of taking it.
Biomassed: Tell us a bit about the “real you”. Who is the man (or woman) behind the merc?
Silly Rabbit: Well my real name is Christopher Holloway. Outside of DUST 514, I’m an everyday guy who loves the culinary arts and family. I don’t want to bore you out too much with the details but I’ve been in the food industry for over five years and it’s a great passion of mine. It’s crazy how food can give you insight to the many wonders in life.
Biomassed: Why did you decide to run for the CPM this year?
Silly Rabbit: I’m deciding to run this year because I didn’t feel I had a great understanding of the game so much last year, as I do now. In order for me to truly represent the community as a CPM, I needed to understand not only what the players want, but what effort goes into making a game work entirely as a whole. I say this in regards learning about the game that I wish to represent, not just the player base.
Biomassed: What are the strengths you think you can bring to the CPM? What is your biggest weakness you’ll need to contend with?
Silly Rabbit: I would admit that my biggest strength in this game has always been my desire to compete to the best of my capability. Whether the odds are in my favor, or completely stacked against me; my ambition in making the impossible possible never wavers. However, I’ve learned in my years on this earth that having tunnel vision on the goal ahead can sometimes mean I can overlook the small things along the way. Hopefully where my weakness shows, another CPM will shed light on to help realize the end goal in a broader spectrum.
Biomassed: What do you feel is the role of the CPM?
Silly Rabbit: The role of the CPM is one which represents the community of which it serves. If we are elected by those who trust us to convey ideas or concerns directly to CCP, that is exactly what we need to do. There have been a few past, as well as currently elected CPM officials who have exemplified this characteristic many times over. These guys make the position worth striving to attain, in order to maintain that special link between the gamer and game creator.
Biomassed: How do you feel about the previous CPM? What was done well, and what could have been done better?
Silly Rabbit: CPM1, for the most part, have done well to assist in bringing DUST 514 out of limbo post-Fanfest ‘14. Along with CCP Rattati, every step of the way I feel more connected to the game by the level of information being relayed to us publicly in the forums, or through the most recent think tank placed into motion. If there was a key point to say was a win for the CPM1 residency, it was the effort in bringing content and awareness closer to the consumer. I could say that the CPM1 could have done better in certain areas, but we live in a world where nothing ever goes according to plan. Granted this is a video game, but some things realistically cannot always be achieved even when the idea is in the right place. So if the good deeds outweigh the bad, I can agree they did an overall great job within their tenure.
Biomassed: What are your thoughts on communication between the players and CCP? The CPM and CCP? The CPM and the players?
Silly Rabbit: Communications are better than they have been in the past. The best thing to know about the forums is that people speak their mind. Even better is the ability of the CPM and CCP to sift through the meta and find the players who mean well for the game as a whole. This year, I would say communications between all parties has done nothing but made a better experience for those who wish to see this game last another year.
Biomassed: Where do you hope to see the game by the end of your term? If DUST is able to be ported to another platform, which platform would you prefer, and why? (Editor’s Note: Questions were answered together.)
Silly Rabbit: I honestly would like to see this game ported to the next generation of gaming consoles. I would say I am in favor of a direct port to PS4 over PC. FPS gaming can only be exploited to game-breaking dimensions once it touches PC, due in part that its interface can be directly manipulated by questionable persons. The game is in just too fragile of a state to be exposed by this truth at the moment. Consoles are much easier to monitor and are structured for just gaming. I would also like to push for a better balance in weaponry and equipment of the game, bringing back things that should never have been removed (i.e. vehicles and vehicle mods). Furthermore, I want to know that I’ve done everything that I could to bring the community closer to the gameplay that they’ve always wanted. My only bias is that I want the game to grow more with each passing year. This means better integration of new players into this sink-or-swim universe we call New Eden. If I can help aid in bringing fulfillment to this game (should I be elected), then I’ve done my job.
Biomassed: How can players reach out to you if they have further questions for you?
Silly Rabbit: Reach me on Skype: xTheSiLLyRaBBiTx // Gmail: xxTheSillyRabbitxx@
You can also reach me in-game through mail. I’m typically online playing daily.
