CPM Candidate Interview: Lethargic (137H4RGIC)

Biomassed: Who are you? Who do you play DUST 514 with, and what style of play do you enjoy?

Lethargic: My name is Lethargic (137H4RGIC). I haven’t played DUST 514 recently, but I’ve been reading the forums on a semi-daily basis, keeping up to date with the political, meta, and all other social ongoings of DUST 514. As far as playstyle, I love to brawl. I have been a heavy/tanker since I started playing back in January 2013.

Biomassed: Tell us a bit about the “real you”. Who is the man (or woman) behind the merc?

Lethargic: Well, my name’s Jason. I’m a father of a seven year old daughter and I work as a Personal Support Worker for a pair of disabled twins. The job is very demanding and very stressful. I love gaming and it’s been my fix for a lot of my stress. I am getting married in August and am going to a honeymoon to Disneyworld with my fiancée in September.

Biomassed: Why did you decide to run for the CPM this year?

Lethargic: I’ve seen the difference that CPM1 has made for DUST 514 whether some will admit it that they’ve made one or not. I have been wanting to run for CSM in EVE for quite some time. But it is hard to get known in that game DUST is a much closer knit community and unlike EVE, I’ve been following its progress since it DUST 514 was put on the TQ servers.

Biomassed: What are the strengths you think you can bring to the CPM? What is your biggest weakness you’ll need to contend with?

Lethargic: My strengths would be my ability to listen, troubleshoot and display a great deal of empathy for my fellow players. Even in the real world when faced with conflicts, I am known for always considering the other side before jumping to any conclusions. My biggest weakness would be my passion and love for the game. I plan to deal with my passion by using my strengths – listen, troubleshoot and consider my fellow man before doing anything rash.

Biomassed: What do you feel is the role of the CPM?

Lethargic: The role of the CPM is essentially to represent the players to CCP and vice versa. Their role is to troubleshoot issues that the community is faced with alongside with CCP so that CCP will have a player’s perspective on the changes. Also, it is their sole priority to keep what is TOP secret within the NDA.

Biomassed: How do you feel about the previous CPM? What was done well, and what could have been done better?

Lethargic: I loved the previous CPM. I really enjoyed their efforts to push out more communication with CCP and the players so that the players were more aware of what was going on behind closed doors. Granted, there wasn’t much to be said, but CCP did make every effort to reveal what they could.

Biomassed: What are your thoughts on communication between the players and CCP? The CPM and CCP? The CPM and the players?

Lethargic: I think that the ongoing communication about progress is slightly lackluster, but the Trello board makes up for that. I’m not fully aware of what sort of communication goes on between CCP and CPM as much of it is NDA. However, CPM makes sure to communicate to the players what CCP talks about (that which isn’t under NDA). This enables communication from the players to CPM and effectively, to CCP and vice versa. I believe brutal honesty about ideas or thoughts that are scrapped should be communicated as the playerbase values honesty more than mystery and locked doors. Too many locked doors is a bad thing.

Biomassed: Where do you hope to see the game by the end of your term?

Lethargic: I hope to see the game with the rest of the heavy weapons, and the rest of the racial vehicles with a SoonTM on client porting.

Biomassed: If DUST is able to be ported to another platform, which platform would you prefer, and why?

Lethargic: Much as I love Sony PlayStation, I would have to say PCs. Simply because then patch releases are not governed by contracts set forth by Sony. CCP can hotfix, patch, and create content at will. I believe this allows for much faster rapid-fire development for the game and the path between communication and feedback are much more supportive of quick response by the development team.

Biomassed: How can players reach out to you if they have further questions for you?

Lethargic: Players may always find me by way of Skype ID: Cerebrophage.
