CCP Games announced earlier today that it will be releasing its first non-EVE game later this year. The game has been titled Sparc and is a virtual reality title focused around a new sport that would otherwise be impossible outside of virtual space. The game is the final product of the Disc Battle prototype that debuted at CCP’s 2015 Fanfest (subsequently Project Arena at the 2016 Fanfest) and utilizes VR headsets and hand controllers to deliver a physical game experience akin to the iconic Disc Battles from the Tron franchise. CCP hopes that the game will be a fun physical sport that allows players to compete with others from around the world. In addition, other players will be able to freely spectate from outside the virtual court and interact with one another in a virtual social environment.
Sparc is being developed by CCP’s Atlanta studio and is currently slated to be released on the PlayStation VR, HTC Vive, and Oculus Rift sometime in 2017.
